Food For Good
What We Do
Food For Good is a re-think of food service in the shelter system. Good Samaritan believes its clients deserve fresh, healthy food and produce. While many think this ideal is an uneconomic fantasy, Food For Good has proven that it can be done. In addition to the nutritional benefits of local, organic, freshly prepared meals, Food For Good provides clients with culinary training, enabling another path to self-sufficiency: a key element in breaking the vicious cycle of homelessness.
BridgeHouse Farm
Our 3.5-acre organic farm in Lompoc produces 100,000 pounds of produce annually. All of it is used by our kitchens, sold in Harvest Box subscriptions, or donated to other charitable organizations.

Catering
Chef Donald Hardin also heads our catering program, providing incredible food for events near you. Under Chef Hardin’s oversight, trainees and graduates of our culinary arts program are employed in resume building experience that further strengthens their opportunities for self-sufficiency.
Santa Maria & Hedges House
Kitchens
We operate two commercial kitchens, servicing our shelter clients throughout Santa Barbara County. In these kitchens, we prepare 156,378 meals per year. Additionally, through our culinary arts program, Chefs Donald Hardin and Vernon Cryer train clients to have the necessary tools and skills to receive certification for work in the foodservice industry.

Thanks to the generous support of the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara, Good Samaritan is in the process of purchasing a fully-equipped Food Truck. The truck will serve as further training and paid employment for our culinary program graduates, and as another source of funding to further the Good Samaritan mission.
